Bahamas Banks
The Bahamas gained their independence from the United Kingdom in 1973, although the British Queen continues to be the Head of State. The country is formed by more than 700 islands, which start at just 50 miles from the coast of Florida. The economy depends on tourism (it receives 4 million visitors every year), but financial services have gained in importance and the Bahamas are now a financial center of international renown.
There are 278 accredited banks and almost 800 mutual foundations in the country. The trust administration is also very well-known. There are neither income taxes nor taxes on capital gain or sales taxes.
Nevertheless, there are annual government fees for businesses and, in addition, a national insurance is applied, as well as stamp and property taxes. Offshore operations are carried out through international business corporations or some other tax-exempt formula. The Bahaman government has dealt with cleaning the country’s image and consolidated it as a trustworthy financial center. At present the Bahamas have signed 28 Tax Information Exchange Treaties.
